HR Introduces New Service Delivery Model

HR Consulting Teams

In March, the Human Resources department rolled out a new service delivery model that provides enhanced support to University constituents. Historically, the HR Department has operated based on area specialization, such as employment, compensation, training and employee relations. Managers and employees worked with various HR representatives based on the specific issue. With the new service model, every department/constituent has been assigned an HR Consulting Team that will be their primary contact and provide support on human resources services and programs. This model enables HR to better understand the operations, needs and concerns of their client departments and supports a partnership between the two units. Below are some of the specific ways that the HR Consulting Teams will have a more proactive and holistic approach in partnering with the University:

  • Helping supervisors to define recruitment/retention needs
  • Developing strategies that encourage a broad and diverse pool of applicants
  • Counseling employees on career paths and opportunities
  • Ensuring that employees' jobs are accurately classified and that employees are appropriately paid
  • Advising supervisors on job evaluations, salary matters, titles and pay grades
  • Maintaining a positive and productive work environment
  • Actively pursuing strategies for identifying, evaluating and assessing departmental needs
  • Counseling employees on professional growth and skills development
  • Helping employees and supervisors to assess skills and recommend training programs
  • Collaborating in the delivery of learning programs
  • Regular discussions on soliciting feedback on HR services and programs
  • Counseling supervisors and employees on preventing and resolving work problems and managing performance

Through increased knowledge and understanding of UNT and its departments, HR will integrate its initiatives with, and helps to attain, UNT goals and objectives.  By providing a consulting team approach for constituents, the Human Resources Department will increase its ability to strengthen business relationships and assist in the strategic planning of human resources needs. For information on Consulting Teams and who they support, visit the HR website at http://www.hr.unt.edu/main/ViewPage.php?cid=33.

HR Services Team

Along with the HR Consulting Teams, the HR Services Team will continue to provide support in the areas of Administration, Benefits, Records and HRIS Systems. Below are some of the specific ways that the HR Services Team partners with the University:

  • Streamlining the new hire process for Faculty & Staff members
  • New Hire Orientation
  • Benefit & retirement planning consultation
  • Education and communication of benefit programs
  • Administration of leave plans
  • Training for time keepers
  • Employment verification requests

An exciting new service provided by this team is the completion of new hire paperwork. The HR Services team will now be meeting with all new retirement-eligible Faculty and Staff employees* on the first day of employment to complete required new hire paperwork. During this meeting, HR Services will:

  • Obtain required employment forms, including the I9, EBD, HIPPA Statement & Previous State Service
  • Obtain required payroll forms, including the W-4, EFT Authorization for Electronic Funds Transfer of Salary, and Foreign National Information Form (if required)
  • Enter information into EIS to generate employee ID (EMPLID)
  • Register the employee for New Hire Orientation
  • Introduce the employee to MyUNT and explain how he/she will obtain EUID
  • Provide a copy of the Eagle Guide and all other required information
  • Provide a campus map and information on obtaining a parking permit and University ID

Through the centralization of this process, new employees will receive critical information in a consistent and detailed manner. Additionally, they will be entered into EIS more expeditiously, providing for a minimal turnaround time for system access and payroll set-up. For more information on the new hire process, visit the HR website at http://www.hr.unt.edu/main/ViewPage.php?cid=59.

We are encouraged by the opportunities this new structure brings, as we continue to strive to provide the best possible support to the University.

* Hourly employees, Graduate Assistants, TA/TFs and Adjuncts will continue to be completed at the department level and forwarded to HR.

Town Hall Meetings

The Division of Finance and Administration hosts a Town Hall meeting each quarter for staff to ask questions and discuss current initiatives happening within the division.

“We want staff to ask about any activity involving these important areas,” says Andrew Harris, vice president for finance and administration. “UNT is a large and changing organization with lots of new initiatives in the works. We want to be sure our staff has an opportunity to learn about what is planned and why things are done.”
